Health Agreement

The level of health care in Australia is very good. Under the mutual health plan, British citizens residing in the UK and travelling on a British passport are entitled to Medicare-limited subsidized health care for necessary medical care during a visit to Australia. This does not apply to existing diseases or treatments that do not require immediate attention. These provisions do not apply to non-visitors, z.B. to people studying in Australia. Other exceptions under the reciprocal agreement are non-hospitalized drugs, ambulance services and expensive medical evacuations. Ask the hospital or doctor if a refund is possible. If not, ask the local public health. You are treated as if you were in the country in question.

In general, these agreements apply to British nationals living in the United Kingdom. If you are not a British national, you can still be insured for an inexpensive or free treatment if you normally live in the UK. An Australian citizen or permanent resident who has been in New Zealand for two years or more or who can prove that he or she intends to stay in New Zealand for two years or more is entitled to all publicly funded services and may register with a PHO and receive the same health grants as a full person. The United Kingdom has mutual health agreements with several non-EEA countries and territories. While travel can be enjoyable, it can sometimes be a challenge. There are clear links between mental health and physical health, so it is important to take care of yourself during travel and abroad. You can find information on travel with mental illness on our instructions page. For more information, visit the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC). For more information on what you can do if you think you have a coronavirus in Australia, check out the health information in the Coronavirus section, at least 8 weeks before your trip, the latest country health mentions from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on TravelHealthPro. Each country page provides information on vaccine recommendations, current health risks or outbreaks, as well as fact sheets on staying abroad.

Instructions are also available through NHS (Scotland) on the FitForTravel website. If you exchange the words “UK” or “Southern” for “New Zealand” and “New Zealand” for “Uk” or “Australian” in the corresponding summaries above, you will see what the agreements on the rights of New Zealand citizens and state-of-residence owners in those countries say. Many hospitals in Montenegro do not accept the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to prove that you are entitled to free emergency care.
